Lawfare is a modern term to an ancient tool that was used in biblical days. Its roots are demonic tied to spiritual darkness, jealousy, pride and manipulation.
 
Lawfare is defined as: “the use of legal proceedings to achieve a goal, such as the use of legal systems to wage war to damage or destroy someone’s reputation. This approach transforms the battlefield from physical combat to the courtroom, where legal maneuvers become the weapons of choice.” (https://wayneaston.com/what-is-the-meaning-of-lawfare/)
 
Especially over the last ten years, lawfare has increased exponentially where legal avenues are weaponized to hinder or destroy political opponents or righteous actions.
 
When laws are manipulated to achieve an unrighteous end, it is demonic lawfare. It can be enabled with both unknowing or corrupt judges/leaders, who allow unjust actions to be legalized and promoted.
 
Ecclesiastes reminds us there is nothing new under the sun. The same spirit of wickedness in our world now has been prevalent throughout time. Let’s take a look:
 
Lawfare in the days of Esther
 When Mordecai refused to bow down to Hamon, the second in command to the king, Hamon became enraged. The definition of enraged is: “rage that goes into and takes over.” Hamon became possessed with a spirit of jealousy and rage which had an insatiable desire to destroy. (That is a 7-stage spiritual pattern I reveal in my book, “Infected.” Once someone is infected, the spiritual virus will progress to insanity and death if not delivered from it!)
 
“When Haman saw that Mordecai would not kneel down or pay him honor, he was enraged. Yet having learned who Mordecai’s people were, he scorned the idea of killing only Mordecai. Instead Haman looked for a way to destroy all Mordecai’s people, the Jews, throughout the whole kingdom of Xerxes (Ecc 3:5-6).
 
It wasn’t enough in Hamon’s mind to destroy Mordecai. Possessed by a demonic force, it pushed him to want to destroy ALL the Jewish people! Hamon went to the king to write an edict and create a legal avenue in which he could kill the Jews. Hamon positioned his request as a way to “protect” the king. But it was all based on a lie.
 
Lawfare in the days of Daniel
Similar actions were repeated in the book of Daniel (chapter 6) where it says the king was so impressed with Daniel that he wanted to elevate him in position above all the other princes, and leaders. That didn’t go over well with them as you can imagine.
 
At this, the administrators and the satraps (ruler/leader/bureaucrat) tried to find grounds for charges against Daniel in his conduct of government affairs, but they were unable to do so. They could find no corruption in him, because he was trustworthy and neither corrupt nor negligent. Finally these men said, “We will never find any basis for charges against this man Daniel unless it has something to do with the law of his God” (Daniel 6:4-5)
 
They appealed to the king’s pride that any in the kingdom who would elevate anyone or thing above the king for 30 days should be destroyed. They coerced the king to write an edict saying so.
 
The royal administrators, prefects, satraps, advisers and governors have all agreed that the king should issue an edict and enforce the decree that anyone who prays to any god or human being during the next thirty days, except to you, Your Majesty, shall be thrown into the lions’ den. Now, Your Majesty, issue the decree and put it in writing so that it cannot be altered—in accordance with the law of the Medes and Persians, which cannot be repealed.” So King Darius put the decree in writing (Daniel 6:7-9).
 
The jealous ones worked to create an injunction that would allow them to have Daniel killed—legally with the king’s approval. The king was tricked and didn’t realize the end-result of what he was signing into law.
 
In Jesus’ day
The Pharisees were enraged at Jesus. His popularity had usurped theirs. He worked miracles which they could not. In pride and jealousy, they determined to destroy him and coerce Rome to do the dirty work and crucify Jesus. We all know how that worked out.
 
That same spirit still operates today.
 
We see it now as unethical and devious individuals have been removed in the most recent elections and now attempt to claw their way back into a position of power. Don’t just think that is only happening in D.C.. It is happening all over our nation because this is a battle of the spirit! We are in a season of exposure and cleaning house. This isn’t about what we are doing…it is about what God is doing.
 
HE is cleaning house and we need to be fully aware and make sure we are on the right side of this battle. The spirit of offense continues to blind many to what is really at work right now. Be aware and be wise so that we don’t find ourselves battling His plan and purpose.
 
Judgement in the house of God…
 1 Peter 4:17 says: “For it is time for judgement to begin with the household of God…”
 
Those with a grace gift find it hard to believe that some people can be intentionally evil. They want to believe the best in someone, and do not believe that they should be confronted. By refusing to confront injustice and unrighteous behavior, we actually enable wickedness to continue. Especially if a person is in a position of leadership (church, community, or government), we cannot excuse wrongdoing. Perhaps that person just made a mistake or had a one-time failure. By confronting his failure, we bring correction so that person can still be part of his community. But there are those who are wicked through and through. We may not realize it at first. They may be good with their words and make many people believe they are good. But once they are exposed, we cannot excuse their actions. Strong discipline must happen and the person must be removed from any position of leadership and influence. Light cannot fellowship with darkness. We must not compromise when it comes to  ungodly leadership. We must stand for justice and righteousness every day, in every area of our lives.
